Microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy in Pune
Microphlebectomy, also known as ambulatory phlebectomy, removes varicose veins in the leg without surgery. Veins are flexible and collapse easily; even some large veins suffering from conditions can be removed through small nicks. Not long ago, surgery was the only reliable option, but now, many minimally invasive procedures can be more effective than surgery for treating varicose veins.
Microphlebectomy is performed to complement endovenous laser ablation. If you’re looking for an alternative to surgery to treat your varicose veins, you may be a candidate for microphlebectomy. Microphlebectomy can offer symptomatic relief and help make patients feel more comfortable with the appearance of their legs.
Procedure of Microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy is usually done in our office. Our doctor will review your medical history, medications, use of supplements and any medication allergies. You should wear loose-fitting clothing on the day of your treatment. Here is what to expect:
- The area surrounding the vein will be cleaned and sterilized.
- A local anaesthetic will be injected around the vein by the anaesthesia specialist.
- Once the area is numb to perform the procedure, small incisions are made in the skin.
- A special instrument consisting of a hook is then inserted through the incision and is used to remove the affected varicose veins.
- You should not need stitches; small bandages will be placed over the nicks when the procedure is complete.
The procedure should take 45 minutes to an hour. Afterward, the leg is usually wrapped, and within 24 hours, the patient can return to normal activities. The patient might need to have compression stockings on for 2 – 3 weeks after the procedure, and the patient should avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks.
